Know Your Glider #18 : Walter Ik Ming

Players Profile

DOB: 19 July 1990
Age: 23
Position: Left Back/Center Back
Jersey No: 18
Residency : Kubah, Bukit Jelutong

Well known as a player who only talks when it is necessary, Walter Ik Ming has been one of our precious gem at the back line of the pitch holding on to CABJ's defence. word of advice, we'd never take his shyness for granted as our very fit Walter leaves only memories of  his vicious bulldozing attempts when another is in his way whenever he is in action in the pitch.Though it might hurt or break, Walter's meant no harm, not even to a bee .. or at least that is what we want to believe.

We had the chance to interview him recently on his thoughts of CABJ being the Champ for Liga Perangsang Selangor 2013 and the preparation of the team in the upcoming battle in Perangsang Selangor Cup Finals next weekend against Southern FC.

Q: How do you feel about LPS?
A: This league is the most challenging so far because it's quite a long league with 12 teams participating and we're required to be consistent with our performance each week.

Q: What do you think has made us won the title this year?
A: I think the main factor that won us the league was our team spirit. We had our ups and downs but we remained focus throughout and just did our best. Kudos to our manager Brian Nathan with his superb team management. Special mention to BolaBall FC as they indirectly helped us by beating SA City during their last match in the league. That was the turning point of the season. Besides that, credit to the players for their determination and hard work.
Q: Which game was your best game throughout the league?
A: We played many good games but if I were to pick one it will be the game against B8. We knew they had good players but at the same time we knew our strengths. We played good defence and stayed focus especially when we were leading. That was also the game that ultimately put us a good position to win the league.
Q: How do you feel about the supporters that came to the games week in week out?
A: The supporters were great! Stood by us every game and cheered us on no matter what. It’s always nice to see people showing their support.

Q: What is your feeling towards the final of the PS Cup and the chance of us getting double this year?
A: It feels great! I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the final and hopefully we'll end the season with a double. We stand a good chance to win the cup however we need to stay focused on our game. Expect a very interesting game of football so be there!

From the Coach's Eyes:

"I have followed his football milestone since his schooldays. Walter has always shown great potential but only managed to display his true self in flashes. This year (back in 2012), he seemed to have come out of his shell more and shown more confidence, resulting in more polished displays culminating in his man of the match award. Can go on to greater heights but must be careful not to go back into his shell. Off the field, appears to be a very private person." – Safrizal Mohd Said Former but forever in heart, CABJ Coach

"A player who is quiet but gives his all on the pitch" – BrianNathan, Manager

Here are some random facts on Walter we gathered.
Fact #1 : Walter Lee is also our Vice Treasurer for the Club assisting Fieza Razi. Our very own Ah Long to kutip monthly fee of hutangs.True Story.

Fact#2 :Walter Lee is a very very VERY competitive person in and off the field according to his good friend Billy Lee

Fact#3: When Walter asks a girl out for a date, Billy Lee added “He is shy with girls but still nak ajak keluar! but always end up lepak with the guys! grrrr"

CABJ, the Munro League 2013 CHAMPIONS!

It was the one of the best Saturdays for CABJ last week as they battled in their last game during the Liga Perangsang Selangor (Munro League) that determined the Champion of Munro League. The match against TTDI FC was held at Setia alam at 3:30 pm and many of CABJ supporters were seen in orange and green showing their support.

When we asked Brian Nathan on his expectation befor the match, he was seen confident that CABJ will win
the game and claim the title of champion in the Munro League. Being the best as what our last post mentioned on Brian his predictions were right.

It was a calm start as CABJ took control of the game mostly in the first half. CABJ scored two tremendous goals both in the 1st half of the match. Both goals were scored by our Palestinian glider who is also one of our best strikers, Ahmed Khamis and  assisted by none other than Azrul Raimie through two beautiful cross both attempts met with two sharp headers by Ahmed.

During the second half CABJ maintained a clean game as they were not raised by any yellow card throughout the game. The pace of the game during the second half were faster as TTDI FC attempted for a comeback however with the help of CABJ defences and goalkeeper’s sharp instinct the ball claimed back to CABJ’s side.

CABJ sealed off the game claiming victory with the final  scoreline of CABJ 2 - TTDI FC 0. And with that, CABJ was crowned as Liga Perangsang Selangor (Munro League) 2013 Champion with only 1 point ahead of SA City.

Indeed it was a tight league but according to CABJ Striker Affendi Amir, “though it was a tough league and there were struggles in a few matches but we maintained our games and I am  proud to say that despite all that we still managed to win in our first season with Munro League. I believe that is a great start for all of us”

Now, CABJ focuses on the FA Cup as they too hope to bring another title this year.  CABJ will again meet up with SA City in the FA Cup Semifinals this coming weekend as it is also predicted to be a tensed match to watch. Details to follow soon!

Munro League News (PREVIEW) : Current Standings

After the 3-1 win against FC Lantun, we have confirmed our Champions League spot. With another one game left for CABJ, they just need a win to lift another trophy this season.

SA City's win over B8 also has confirmed the spot for the Champions League. With 25 points collected throughout the season, they are back to top spot while Champions League's place is out of B8's reach even though they have one more game in hand.

Also, FC Lantun and Rial Diva missed their opportunities to book the place for Champions League when they lost to CABJ and Southern FC respectively. Both of the teams collected 20 points throughout the season.

The season has also ended for BolaBall, Aragonne, and Shag & Warren. They played their last game last week. BolaBall finished best among the three teams with 17 points, one short for Aragonne, and Shag & Warren with 4 points.

Meanwhile, Southern FC have the chance to overtake B8 for the fifth place if they win their last game against Padang Bulat provided B8 lose to TTDI.

TTDI and Padang Bulat who are currently at ninth and tenth place respectively with both teams have two games in hand. They will be playing their last game on 22nd June during our PS Semi-Final against SA City.

P9 have collected three points throughout the season with only one win and they are filling the bottom spot of the table.

The final game for CABJ against TTDI is a must win game in order to be crowned as Champions of Liga Perangsang Selangor 2013.

Do they have what it takes to be the champion? Can they bring back the glory days since the last win at Safee Sali?

Munro League News (CABJ - 3 FC LANTUN - 1) - One Step Closer to Another Title

The recent game against Lantun FC started strongly with numbers of attacks. Despite few turnout of players on that day, CABJ managed to control the game with a final score of CABJ -3 Lantun FC - 1. During the first half, Ameer  Aizat faced an one on one chance but  was saved by the FC Lantun goalkeeper. First goal didn't take long for CABJ as Muhammad Rahimi scored the first goal from a close range through a short-ranged tap-in assisted by Billy Lee through an early low cross. Facing pressure due to lack of focus by CABJ, gave FC Lantun the opportunity to equalize the score to CABJ - 1 FC Lantun - 1 when a through ball beats the offside trap on the left side giving FC Lantun's striker to place the ball to the far post by

During the second half, CABJ conquered more possession of the ball than FC Lantun especially with  Dzul Rahim who came in to strengthen the midfield posts when he controlled the game play.

CABJ's second goal came when Azrul Raimie  crossed from the right flank who found Fendi who then headed home for a 2-1 lead . The keeper nearly saved my ball but it was away from his reach. Ikram al Rashid's outstanding solo effort from the centre of the field created the chance for a shot just inside the box. Before the final whistle, Raimie's attempt to lob the goalkeeper failed as it was directed to him.

"We were too fast during the first half. We need to improve on reading opponent's style of play. We didn't take the chances but we were lucky get more to score three goals." said CABJ's Manager Brian Nathan

Munro League News : In Brian We Trust

".. Brian Nathan has been giving his full commitment for the team and I see a good progress in CABJ” said CABJ President, Zurin Adra when we asked him to comment on the recent game against B8 in the Munro League.

Many were impressed with the game play of players, especially during the first half of the game which showed good judgement by the manager himself.

Brian Nathan,  known for his quiet glare off the pitch and during briefs between 2 half of the game. He doesn't say much but only talk when he has too and that usually happens when the team is out of its game play.

Zurin Added "it is mine and our role at this point to support him in every way, to make sure he has the

resources to accomplish what he wants to accomplish for CABJ”

Zurin then concluded his comment with high hope if given a chance and time, CABJ could evolve tremendously under the wing of Brian Nathan. “I believe in him“he said.

Current update form the Munro League standings, with 20 points collected, currently CABJ is at second place in the league, trailing by two points from league leader SA City with an advantage of one game in hand. SA City's two losses in a row have made the title open to CABJ, FC Lantun, Real Diva, and B8.

Having B8 failing to grab a single point in their last two matches, they were dropped to fifth spot with 18 points but have yet played their 10th game.

It being an unpredictable week in LPS, FC Lantun and Real Diva boldly took advantage of the situation and climbed to third and fourth place respectively. Both teams have collected 20 points throughout the season alongside CABJ.

CABJ Striker and Vice President Azrul Raimie Razi also commented that the way Brian managed the team has been great especially in bringing up the team spirit after losing to SA City last 2 weeks. He then added that the commitment from players showed that they want to bring home the title.

CABJ Striker /VP Azrul Raimie with man himself.

“We have a really good chance of winning the league as long as we win this 2 upcoming games. We had to depend on other teams result before this but now, now it is up to us. We believe that we are in a good but not a safe rank in the current standings. Over all, yes, we are doing well currently.

CABJHealth: Pre Match Meals to Avoid

It is a fact that a football game is a gruelling test of power, strength and stamina. You Stand and run and use a full force of energy in a game that lasts for 48 to 60 minutes. But most game requires quick bursts of high-intensity effort. Proper pre-match nutrition can provide you with the energy you need to take on the challenges of game day and an inappropriate pre match nutrition however tell us another story.

Here’s a list of food to avoid and to eat any time before a match as they are very high in fat and remain in the stomach for a long time as it is very difficult to digest.

Supporters are advised not to offer the players potato chips before a game to munch and this includes offering it to our Manager, Brian Nathan to avoid from..well you know. . Lack of focus? (we’re kidding but the  potato chips is true)

Avoid fast food such as MCD’d KFC’S, Burgers & hot Dogs which also includes the Coney & cream dogs we all love.

Last but not least Candy bars or anything sweet in general for the sweet tooth in CABJ. Sweets do stabilize your blood pressure but try and avoid it before a game as it also is high in fat which makes it difficult to digest especially for Candy or Chocolate bars and Ice cream.

If you eat the above food as pre-match meals, they will likely be with you during the match. Avoid or limit eating these foods for your pre match meal.

oh yes, you are what you eat. eat well gliders!

“The night before games I’ll have chicken, pasta, fish: all the normal stuff you would expect us to eat. If it’s an early kick-off, you try and stock up the night before as much as you can, because you obviously can’t eat too much in the morning. I’ll then have Coco Pops and a banana as a pre-match meal and then when we get to the stadium, there are cereal bars in the dressing room and energy gels which you can take if you feel you need them.” – Wayne Rooney

CABJCare : Injury Recovery with the RICE Principles

So often we see our players facing an injury in a match or  training gorunds. We had seen Azrul Raimie, Ungku Nazrin, Muhammad Mu'izz , Zurin Adra, Ejaz Ferhan and many more faced dramatic major injuries; however we never really looked in minor injuries that might have helped to reduce major ones to just hit us there and then. It is inevitable in sports however as what was referred from dukehealth.org, the length of time off the pitch can be shortened dramatically by practising the RICE principles.

As simple ABC, Gliders should really practice this by fully understand the how the RICE works for minor injuries.

Lets start with this. (Article encrypted from www.dukehealth.org)

R- Rest           I – ICE         C- Compression          E - Elevation

Rest
Rest is the first principle of RICE. Rest does not necessarily mean total immobilization or weeks on crutches
. However, it is important to modify your activity especially within the first 24-48 hours following injury.

Your body's first reaction is to begin the repair process by stopping the bleeding at the site of injury. This occurs when a clot forms around the injured tissues inside your body. Rest is important to allow for both the clot formation, as well as preventing disruption of this clot after it is formed.

Ice
Ice applied to an injured and painful area has a numbing effect that reduces pain and offers temporary relief.
While pain relief is beneficial following injury, the most important function of ice has more to do with its effects on the actual cells in the injured area. In basic terms, it helps your body reduce swelling and provide the necessary oxygen and nutrients to the area for healing.

Compression
Applying some type of compressive wrap to an injured area can greatly reduce the amount of initial swelling. Swelling is a major factor in prolonged rehabilitation.
Swelling occurs very rapidly; however, since it's removed through the lymphatic system, it takes a long time to reduce swelling.

Elevation
Elevation refers to keeping the injured body part in a position higher than the level of the heart.
For an ankle sprain, this means propping your foot up while lying down. When your leg is elevated, gravity works to reduce the swelling and relieve pressure from the injury.

What’s Next?
After a minor injury, swelling should be reduced within the first couple days and a gradual return to activity is recommended.
First, work on gaining full range of motion by lightly moving the injured body part and stretching to a comfortable range. Next, begin to strengthen the area with normal daily activities and then progress to sport activities.

Seeking Medical Attention
If you are still in pain and have significant swelling longer than one week, you may need medical assistance.
Though we all know our first aids are always there in games but having the initiative to practice the RICE principles might also be very helpful at any time of sports injury in the pitch, during training and etc.

Munro League (CABJ - 1 B8 - 0) - A collective effort, Rahimi Cues an Outstanding Play

It was one of the most valuable matches for CABJ in the Munro League this year.

The smooth goal by striker Muhammad Rahimi assisted by BillyLee  now placed CABJ second place in this week’s standing giving a brighter hope for the team in a path to the Champions League.

Muhammad Rahimi, replaced Ahmed Khamis striker position in the first substitution of the games made by Manager Brian Nathan during the game against B8.

Goal Keeper Wan Ajmal collided badly during an attempt of attack by B8 but managed to get up and dust off the pain to hit the pitch.

Minutes later, CABJ player Billy Lee was raised with a yellow card which led to a corner kick for B8 however the game balls back to CABJ which the had a slight missed by Imran Mazli had CABJ in a risky state allowing B8 to an one on one opportunity with Wan Ajmal who then saved it calmly.

Realizing a potential red card that might occur, Brian Nathan boldly substituted Billy Lee with Ungku Ady followed by Ungku Nazrin for Ikram al Rashid minutes later.

Azrul Raimie faced a foul when he then also was raised with a yellow card before the referee marks the end of the first half.

Come second half, players position remains except for Imran Mazli who was replaced by Muhammad Ruffie in the mid field position. Another collision with B8 goal keeper then led to another yellow card for CABJ which was raised to Muhammad Rahimi.

As the game heats up to the last minute of the game, a foul made by B8 to Azrul Raimie was only penalized with a yellow card to B8, which then led to a free kick for CABJ taken by Azrul Raimie.

The final whistle blows, a breath of relief was seen in each of CABJ’s players during the warming down session especially to CABJ’s Manager Brian Nathan.

“I have nothing to say about today’s game. A game well played and you guys went all out” he said during the closing brief of the day.

He then announces the man of the match for this week’s game who showed dedication and full commitment and focus which are Akif Sharifudin and Muhammad Rahimi.

CABJ’s current standing placed in 2nd with only 2 point away from SA CITY as they lost the match against another Bukit Jelutong team Bola Ball FC.

“Proud of everyone who played today and the supporters... we played as a team, it was a collective effort, everyone played well. Enjoy the win but don’t get complacent, two more games. Don’t stop the hard work... Hawwwwush! – Wan Ajmal, CABJ Goal Keeper
