SACL: CABJ 2-0 Bolaball FC - The Gliders Kept Their Hopes Alive

Written by #20 Dzul Rahim Roseli

It was a glorious Saturday evening, the sun was shining, the clouds were out and a drizzle of rain came down just to compliment the weather. It was the 2nd match day of the Setia Alam Champions League 2013 and it was a derby clash between the champions CABJ and Bolaball FC.

The game kicked off at 5:30 in the evening with both team looks to register their first win the group and avoid early relegation from the competition. Both teams looked nervous in the opening minutes of the game as both team tries to avoid making any mistakes. The game then came to life when both team played with pace and composure and manages to get into their opponent half but failed to find an opener. Soon halfway through the first half CABJ manages to get their passing game going and with a few times knocking on the door, a promising move from the left soon paid off when skipper Azrul Raimie Razi was tackled in the penalty box and won himself a penalty. Up stepped Muhammad Ruffie Abdul Aziz to calmly slot the ball into the net to give CABJ a well deserved lead. Bolaball FC responded well in search for an equaliser but the defence were well focus to keep the score at 1-0 through the first half.

The 2nd half kicked off and CABJ wasted no time in strengthening their attack as Coach Brian brought in Muhammad Rahimi Abd Razak in replace of Ahmed Barakat Khamis during halftime. The game in the 2nd half certainly got a lot fierce and more competitive as CABJ tries to secure their lead but was kept pressured by their opponent who looks to find an equaliser. Both teams played their game well composed and strategically in order to find a goal. However, both team kept their focus and the score remain 1-0. Late into the 2nd half a long ball from centreback, Muhammad AkifSharifuddin, caused confusion to his opposite number and the goalkeeper who came out only to find himself colliding with the defender instead of the ball. The ball then dropped nicely to the oncoming winger, M Ameer Aizat Abd Jalil, who composed himself to put the ball into the empty net and put the score beyond reach of his opponent. Bolaball FC however, kept their heads up and kept their pressure towards CABJ, but only to see moments after the referee blowing his final whistle to signal the end of the game.

It was a well hard fought game by CABJ to earn them a valuable 3 points to take the group to a decider for 2nd place when they meet B8 FC in their last group match. It’s all to play for in the last group match and the Gliders have the advantage of goal difference and a draw would make the the champions of Perangsang Selangor League 2013 to qualify the Semi Final.

Final Score: CABJ 2-0 Bolaball FC
Scorer: Ruffie (P), Ameer Aizat
